In November 2022, a Barcelona Housing and Rehabilitation Forum (FHAR) was held, organized by the Municipal Institute of Housing and Rehabilitation of Barcelona (IMHAB) and in which we participated as speakers.
This year’s FHAR consisted of several presentations distributed over two days, where housing and urban planning experts analyzed and discussed three topics of great relevance and with heavy social repercussions, such as the construction of industrialized social housing, rehabilitation, and the Housing crisis.
Marc Obradó – Exe Arquitectura participated in the presentation on Modular Industrialized Social Housing, together with Yaiza Terré (Yaiza Terré Arquitectura), Irene Subils (Architect at the Management of Social Rights, Global Justice, Feminisms, and LGTBI) and Lluís Roig (Tribuna Arquitectura).
Barcelona is a pioneer at the regional level of Catalonia and the national level in terms of modular industrialized construction of social housing, and Marc Obradó therefore presented the Marroc 180 project, designed in collaboration with VIVAS ARCHITECTSIt is a 45-story social housing building with community spaces and commercial premises on the ground floor, located in the Poblenou neighborhood, which is currently under construction and exemplifies the benefits of industrialized construction systems. In this case, all construction materials are prefabricated, recyclable and/or reusable in order to optimize execution times (exact planning, simultaneous execution with on-site work, minimum travel, etc.), reduce construction costs (lightweight structure, reduction of foundations), obtain greater quality control (site visits at the factory), reduce environmental costs during construction (optimization, reduction of waste), guarantee the completion of the building’s life cycle at the end of its life, and guarantee safety and working comfort.
