School classroom prototype
The strategic plan for Escola Sant Gervasi’s 20,000 m² school campus was an exciting and ambitious challenge we embarked on. Our goal was to develop a plan that would address the short, medium and long-term needs of the campus, taking into account its size and diverse functionality.
One of the first actions was to place the plan within a broader urban context, in collaboration with the U-plan studio. We worked to obtain an increase in the maximum buildable ceiling on the campus, thus ensuring its future growth and development.
In addition, the integration of an urban mobility plan in relation to the school’s accesses and the mobility of public and private transportation for students was proposed. This involved a comprehensive approach to the design of outdoor spaces and the necessary infrastructure to promote sustainable and safe mobility.
Sustainability was a key aspect of this project, and we set out to achieve LEED for Schools certification. This involved meeting high sustainability standards, including the installation of a large solar panel array, with the possibility of forming part of a small energy community.
We set out to obtain WELL certification, which guarantees not only sustainability standards, but also strict health parameters in the use of materials and systems. This created a healthy work environment that benefits the academic performance of students and the educational team on a daily basis.
The collaborative process was fundamental to this project. We use a pioneering and innovative approach in the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) + Design & Build environment and Lean methodology, conducting participatory workshops with the entire educational community. This made us a reference in the educational and cooperative sector, with every decision rooted in fundamental values.
We collaborated with several agents on this project, including Emmanuel Pauwels, AB paisajistas, Bernuz Fernández, Lavola ingeniería, and the construction company Zhilma Nova Building, as well as industrialists and manufacturers such as Artigo, Forbo, Altro, Ecophon, Aistec, and many more.
Due to the high level of innovation of the project, we built two pilot classrooms that will be tested for a few years. This will allow us to ensure that the project proposal meets the needs of Escola Sant Gervasi’s educational system.
We will always be grateful for the opportunity to have worked on this great project and for the trust placed in our team.
